[Discuss] best distro for Father's Day?

I am curious why the derivatives for this case.   I suspect they come at a
cost.  For instance I would think Ubuntu is going to be more stable (for
whatever we think that means) than a derivative.

I seem to remember Mint being "good for older hardware because some drivers
are no longer in the current ubuntu repo"  but then there is a huge list of
why Mint isn't a good idea.

I would go with Ubuntu
then pick between:
LTS so you don't have to worry about updates as often
or cutting edge and deal with dist-update every 6 months (deal= he does it
and you deal with the side effects or you just do it.)  (don't ask me how
much of a problem it is.. I hardly do it and really it depends.  I hear in
general it is no big deal)
