Hi All,

Things have come together nicely for our March meeting, and we'll be
gathering this Saturday at Pumping Station: One. The meeting will start
at 2:00pm, and details are available on both our website [0] and the
Meetup.com page [1].

We have two good talks lined up for this month. First, Ian McLeod will
show us how Linux distributions are built - covering how software is
packaged from source, and how combinations of packages are joined
together to make a cohesive Linux distribution. He'll also discuss how
this works in a diverse set of software environments (e.g., old x86
boxes, cloud platforms and immutable systems). It should make for a good
overview of the complexities involved in building and maintaining a
modern Linux distribution.

Sten Turpin will follow that up with a look at the new, container-based
platform, Project Atomic [2]. Project Atomic is based on Red Hat /
Fedora, but has a very small OS footprint which is designed to run
Docker containers. The base OS is able to be updated (and rolled-back)
in an atomic fashion, too. As part of his talk, Sten will show us how
to deploy a Fedora-based version of Project Atomic on Amazon's AWS
infrastructure.

RSVPs are encouraged for this meeting [1]. We hope you'll be able to
join us!

Jim
