That makes sense - why invest a lot of effort into the software if it's
not good to use as-is?

Is there someone who would be willing to spin-up a test instance of
this?  The github readme offers pretty solid instructions for getting it
up and running in a one-off basis.  We could provide a Rackspace server
for testing, and there are OpenSUSE packages available for the server
(which is the hard part).  It should be pretty easy to get something up
for anyone willing to give it a go.
